Legal Advice Helpline


As a Firearm Legal Defence policyholder, you have unlimited access to our Legal Advice Helpline. By calling the toll free number provided in your policy, you can receive confidential legal advice and information on any topic from a qualified lawyer experienced in that field, not just firearm-related legal concerns. All calls are confidential.

Policyholders are entitled to use this service for no additional charge. The advice you receive can help determine your legal rights and options under the laws of your particular province or territory and under Canadian federal laws. Please note that the lawyer advising you cannot provide case specific research or review documents.

Core Service is provided during normal business hours, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time, Monday to Friday. After Hours Service is available between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. local time, as well as on weekends and statutory holidays, and provides for a call back by a lawyer on the next business day. In any of the following emergency situations there is immediate access to a lawyer: the policyholder is 1) in custody, 2) under arrest or detained or 3) required to provide a statement immediately to the police.

Customer service, the Legal Advice Helpline (telephone legal advisory service) and claims handling are administered by STERLON – Legal Expense Insurance Specialists. Sterlon was established in 1993 and is the only independent monoline company in Canada dedicated solely to creating and servicing Legal Expense Insurance programs. The Legal Advice Helpline is provided through established and accredited service providers, and STERLON maintains a panel of specialist lawyers to act for clients in the event of a claim.
